Welcome to the new ShellMix!
In December of 2012, the previous owner of ShellMix deleted all accounts, shutdown the server, and forwarded the domain ShellMix.com to his new "PAY ONLY" service, HypeShell. In the process, he left behind many unhappy users that lost everything they had on the servers, no backups offered, no access to their previusly used email addresses (on the fgfg.pl or shellmix.com domains). It was complete chaos. Everyone and everything lost, seemingly never to return.
Two years later, I needed access to a Google Account that was made using an fgfg.pl email address with no other options to recover the account working, I decided to do some research into the old ShellMix. I found the domain fgfg.pl was for sale and I contacted the current owner / registry and purchased the domain name for $34 USD, setup my old email account, and recovered my old Google Account.
This got me doing more research into the old ShellMix and what happened to it. I came to find out that it was shut down unexpectedly with no warning and turned into the pay only server "HypeShell". I decided that this wasn't fair and that it was a great service and should be brought back and I now had the power to do exactly this, in fact, I was probably now the only person who could restore it to what it once was or who would take the effort and responsibility to do so. Since I had already purchased the domain "fgfg.pl", I decided to see if the old ShellMix owner would sell me the "ShellMix.com" domain also. I sent in a contact form on HypeShell, posted a message on the old ShellMix Facebook page, and emailed the WHOIS registrant email. The next day, I got a response saying he would sell me the domain for $100 USD. I responded saying to send me an invoice and went forward with the purchase.
I then purchased a server in Germany(where they are affordable yet powerful) and created this page. I then started setting up the server and getting everything ready to be a Free Shell Host once again. I spent over a week working on finishing it up, making a website for it, and getting everything back to how it should be to run the Shell Hosting service.
There's still a lot to do, however, I am now allowing registrations for new shells (with the expectation that lots will change and there is still much to be added).
My promise to everyone is this: I will not shutdown unexpectedly and refuse to recover data or provide backups. As long as there continues to be an interest in ShellMix, I will continue to host it and run it, no matter what. If at least one user is active, I will not shut down the service. Long live ShellMix! It will be a community ran project, with me over looking it, not running it. Input will be taken from all users and best efforts made to satisfy all users while keeping the service running smoothly and securely.
